Frequently Asked Questions.

Where is Stravaigin Coaching based?

Stravaigin Coaching is based in Las Vegas, Nevada; however, I am able to travel for all engagements and can conduct coaching sessions virtually. If you are based in Las Vegas then we can meet in person either in a quiet space, or outdoors embracing the natural beauty that surrounds us.

What makes you qualified to coach me?

I take a pragmatic, real-world approach to coaching — one forged in high-pressure environments where clarity, trust, and teamwork weren’t optional, but essential. Throughout my military career, I learned that the most impactful leadership isn’t born from rank or authority — it’s grounded in values. My own values found their fullest expression through servant leadership: helping others grow, succeed, and lead with purpose. Coaching is simply the next evolution of that mission.

My career spans 29 years in the Royal Air Force. Much of that time was devoted to developing the people around me — mentoring peers, training junior officers, and shaping the next generation of leaders. I’ve led teams in complex and high-stakes environments across the globe: from combat operations and search-and-rescue missions to multinational humanitarian efforts. My leadership has been recognized nationally, and I was once described by a senior U.S. Air Force general as “the best officer they had ever encountered.”

Beyond the cockpit and command center, I’ve also led winter expeditions in the European Alps — using the mountains as a classroom for resilience, teamwork, and self-discovery. These experiences reinforced a truth I carry into every coaching session: growth happens at the edge of comfort, where challenge meets reflection.

Academically, I hold a Master of Arts in Military Culture, Leadership, and Technology, and a Master of Science in Leadership and Management, where my research explored remote leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. These studies deepened my understanding of human behavior and organizational dynamics, complementing decades of practical leadership under pressure.

Today, I bring that blend of operational experience, academic insight, and human connection to every client I work with. Whether you’re developing leadership skills, improving team performance, or seeking clarity in your next chapter, my mission is simple: to equip you with the mindset, tools, and accountability to succeed — in whatever arena you choose to lead.

This is your next act of stravaigin — a purposeful journey toward clarity, confidence, and growth. Let’s begin it together.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching and therapy both aim to help individuals improve their lives, but they differ in focus, approach, and methods:

Coaching:

  • Focus: Coaching typically centers on personal or professional development, goal setting, and achieving specific outcomes. It often emphasizes performance improvement, skill-building, and future-oriented strategies.

  • Approach: Coaches work collaboratively with clients to identify strengths, set goals, and create actionable plans. The relationship is often more structured and goal-driven.

  • Methods: Coaches may use techniques like accountability, feedback, and skill assessments. They often focus on practical strategies and solutions to help clients reach their objectives.

Therapy:

  • Focus: Therapy (or counseling) generally addresses emotional, psychological, and behavioral issues. It often explores past experiences and underlying problems that affect mental health and well-being.

  • Approach: Therapists provide a safe, supportive environment for clients to explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The relationship is often more exploratory and healing-oriented.

  • Methods: Therapists use various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or mindfulness practices, depending on the client's needs.

Key Differences:

  1. Goals: Coaching is usually focused on achieving specific goals or improvements, while therapy often deals with healing and understanding deeper emotional issues.

  2. Duration: Coaching may be short-term and focused on specific goals, whereas therapy can be a longer process that delves into more complex emotional challenges.

  3. Qualifications: Coaches may not require specific licenses or formal training, while therapists are typically licensed mental health professionals with formal education and training.

Both coaching and therapy can be valuable, but it's important to choose the right approach based on individual needs and goals.

What is your cancellation policy?

Coaching sessions are non refundable if cancelled within 48 hours, unless in the case of an emergency or if an alternative appointment can be made for that week.

What is something interesting about you?

Ask me about the Everest Challenge I established, or the time I rode from the depths of Death Valley and then tried to summit Mount Whitney within 24 hours! Or perhaps ask me about how I learnt to fly from Obi Wan Kenobi’s father.
