Stravaigin (Noun): An Old Scots word which means to wander aimlessly but with intent across the land. Analagous to life’s journey where the destination is not always achieved by the most direct route.
Who am I?
Military Combat Pilot
I spent almost three decades as a Royal Air Force pilot and senior officer, leading both combat and humanitarian missions across the globe. There were moments of pure satisfaction — when everything aligned, the plan held, and the mission succeeded. But there were also setbacks, crises of confidence, personal losses, and a mental health battle that tested every ounce of resilience I had.
Through those challenges, I learned a powerful truth: humans are like sedimentary rock — shaped by time, pressure, and experience. Each triumph and hardship leaves its mark, layering strength and wisdom into who we become.
That insight forms the bedrock of my coaching philosophy. No two people are the same; each of us is molded by different forces and experiences. Just as the geological processes that shape rock are varied and complex, so too are the challenges that define our lives. We each have our own path to stravaig — a Scottish word meaning “to wander with purpose” — and my role is to help you navigate yours with clarity and confidence.
Across my military career, I mentored and led individuals, high-performing teams, and multinational operations to achieve exceptional results against difficult odds. Those experiences taught me the enduring value of leadership, trust, and resilience. Today, I bring that same mindset into the civilian world — helping clients overcome obstacles, strengthen leadership ability, and find balance and fulfillment in both life and work.
Together, we’ll embrace your unique path, build on your strengths, and prepare you to handle whatever life throws your way.
Student
I was selected by the Air Force Chief of Staff to complete a Master of Arts in Military Culture, Leadership, and Technology — a program that deepened my understanding of how people, organizations, and innovation intersect. Following that, I earned a Master of Science in Leadership and Management, focusing on remote leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Balancing these demanding academic programs with the realities of operational command sharpened my perspective on human behavior and the interconnected world we lead within. It also reinforced a truth I’ve seen time and again: leadership is as much about empathy and adaptability as it is about expertise and authority.
I remain endlessly curious about how people think, decide, and grow. As a lifelong student of leadership and the human experience, I look forward to exploring your perspective — and helping you uncover new ways to learn, adapt, and thrive.
Father
The hardest mission I’ve ever faced is the “no-fail” one: being a father to twin daughters.
Managing ambiguity on the battlefield is challenging — but trying to remember whose turn it is to pick the Friday-night movie can escalate into full-blown twin thermonuclear warfare faster than a combat aircraft on full afterburner.
Parenthood taught me humility, patience, and the reality that even the best-laid plans need constant adjustment. I understand how overwhelming modern life can be — balancing roles as parent, partner, leader, and professional — and the constant pressure to excel in each.
Coach
That’s where I come in. My mission is to help you cut through the noise, focus on what truly matters, and develop practical strategies for resilience and success. Together, we’ll find clarity in the chaos — not just to manage life’s demands, but to thrive within them.
Life’s obstacles don’t have to define you. With the right mindset and approach, you can navigate them with purpose, confidence, and balance.
Let’s chart your next flight path — your own act of stravaigin — a journey that’s not only manageable, but deeply meaningful.
